Baler, Aurora 2014

Who here hasn’t heard of the “Surfing Paradise of the Philippines”? I must say this is one of the best beaches I’ve been for the past 5 years. If you are looking for a serene and calm type of beach, well, this might not be the one you are looking for. As aggressive as the waves and current of the Sabang Beach, ironically it gives a sense of relaxation through surfing. I advise you not to go swimming here since the current is very strong and might pull you away from the shore without you noticing it.

DAY 1 – DAY TOUR!

Anyway, I went for a short trip to Baler last 2014 with my long-time college buddies and the first stop we made is the century-old Balete tree. Seems creepy from outside but when we went inside, it looked more like a maze with its tangled trunk.

See for yourselves.

So after being tangled inside the Balete Tree, we went straight ahead to Ermita Hill. This place is like a dupe of the Tagaytay Highlands where you can see an overlooking view of the stretch of Baler’s beaches. It’s really a place for picture taking.

I purposely didn’t adjust the brightness of the photo so you can see more of the view and not ourselves. Btw, that’s Manu and me. Heehee. :3

After getting tired of the picture taking at Ermita Hill, we went to the town to grab something to eat. Since we’re not really familiar with the place, a tour guide / colleague of our friend April suggested to eat at the ever-famous Gerry Shan’s Place. Since we wanted a heavy meal to fill our tummies, the buffet lunch with unlimited iced tea seemed to be a great deal.

After filling ourselves with yummy food, we went to the ancestral home of Manuel and Aurora Quezon at the heart of the Baler town. Most of their stuff were preserved, including the presidential car which unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a picture of. It’s being kept right below the house in the picture.

After our short tour in the Quezon’s residence, we hopped on to the next destination, the Museo de Baler. So you could already guess what we were able to find in it. Some artifacts about the History of Baler.

After a very tiring day at the town, we went to our lodge at the Kahea’s Lodge to take a quick rest.

So after recharging ourselves, we got ready for the short trek to Mother Falls! The trek was not as hard as what I’ve encountered at Nagsasa, Zambales and the fresh spring water was really worth it.

After these adventures, we called the day off and went back to our “barracks” early to get a lot of sleep for the surfing the day after!

Day 2 – SURFING!

We rose as early as 6AM to catch some waves and luckily, we were able to find ourselves some good ones.

Wasn’t able to get some pictures whilst surfing cause we went to the waters altogether. 😦

So after a really hard battle with Sabang Beach’s waves, we got starved and ate at Hungry Surfer! This restau is so cute with all the interiors it has and with good food too! 🙂

So that’s pretty much it! A very quick weekend trip to the North but jampacked with all the activites you can make with Baler! Will be here again that’s for sure. 😉
